What is Fertility?
Getting a baby is really a great experience and will be the happiest time for a couple in their life. Unfortunately, everyone may not be able to fall pregnant straight away due to various reasons. And, having problems to become pregnant can be very devastating.
Infertility means a couple or person is not able to conceive a baby. For fertility to occur, a man must produce healthy and strong sperm and woman must produce healthy eggs. As fertility treatments are very expensive, it could be beneficial for couples having difficulty conceiving a baby to use natural ways to improve their fertility. Good health, diet and exercise all play an important role in fertility.
Know when you are fertile
One of the most important steps to improve fertility is – knowing when you are most fertile. For a woman she can be only fertile while she is ovulating. So there is only a period of few days in which she can become pregnant. A woman can monitor her body core temperature to know if she is ovulating as body temperature increases when her body is about to release an egg. To increase the chances of conception it is important to have sex just before the egg is released.
Take a balanced diet
Your diet also plays an important part in your body’s fertility. A balanced diet helps in nourishing the reproductive system and regulates hormones. It also helps to maintain a healthy weight. Women who are underweight or overweight have less chance to become pregnant.
Vitamin C and antioxidants should definitely be a part of your diet, especially when you are trying to conceive. They help in reducing the stress on eggs and the reproductive system. They also boost sperm motility and help prevent sperm defects. Calcium and Vitamin D and Zinc are also very necessary to help boost male fertility.
Foods to avoid
There are also some foods to be cut back or preferably avoided altogether when one is trying to conceive. They are as follows:
- Caffeine: It can reduce both male and female fertility.
- Alcohol: It can reduce fertility by 50%.
Do regular exercise
Along with taking nutritious diet it is also necessary to take nutritious diet to maintain a healthy body weight. Being overweight can causer imbalances in the female fertility cycle. Low impact exercises like walking or swimming are better and preferable.
Herbs help a lot
Herbs have been used to improve fertility for many years. However, don’t undertake herbal therapy on your own. Be sure to consult a qualified naturopath.
Dong Quai is a Chinese fertility herb. It balances estrogen levels and improves chances of implantation. Chasteberry helps in increasing fertility by balancing the sex hormones. It does this by stimulating the pituitary gland – the gland that produces estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.
The habits to be avoided
Habits like smoking, drinking, unhealthy eating, and even some prescription medications can be harmful to the baby and also can reduce the chances of fertility. Smoking of Cannabis is found to reduce the amount of sperm a male produces by up to 50%.
The creation of another life is really a miracle, especially when you find how difficult it can be to conceive one.
