Partial Molar Pregnancy

Partial molar pregnancy is one in which an incomplete embryo and the placenta develops to form a fetus. Although, this is not the pregnancy but moles triggers all the pregnancy like symptoms. It is the type of pregnancy in which there is an abnormal growth of the placenta into the molar tissues. Any kind of fetal growth under these circumstances will have several defects.

Partial molar pregnancy is one in which the fertilized egg or an embryo is not at all developed or it is partially developed. Moreover, in place of the embryo there are the clusters of grape like cysts which are also known as hydatidiform mole which grows in the uterus.

Causes Of Partial Molar Pregnancy:

Actually, partial molar pregnancy is generated due to genetic disorder. It is because in normal pregnancy egg receives 1 set of 23 chromosomes from the father and another 1 set of 23 chromosomes from the mother; thus having total of 46 chromosomes.

Whereas, in partial molar pregnancy egg receives 2 sets of chromosomes from the father itself. This is because 2 sperms fertilized the egg. As the result the egg now has 69 chromosomes instead of 46.

Symptoms Of Partial Molar Pregnancy:

The symptoms of pregnancy can be summarized in the following points:

  • Heavy bleeding from vagina in the early stages of pregnancy.
  • Blood will be dark brown in color
  • Severe nausea
  • Vomiting
  • High blood pressure in early days of pregnancy

Can A Women Become Pregnant After Partial Molar Pregnancy:

Once the molar pregnancy is treated with surgical procedure. There are prominent chances for the women to get pregnant. The chances of molar pregnancy to reoccur are very brim.

But, to on the safer side, the women should conceive after an year of the first molar pregnancy. This time duration of one year will ensure that moles are removed permanently.
