How To Overcome Your Cravings For Smoking During Pregnancy

You are pregnant and are strongly addicted to smoking. You know smoking can be very harmful to your baby but are unable to overcome this addiction. You have tried every method but nothing seems to work, if this is the scenario why don’t you try the method of autosuggestion to overcome your addictions to smoking?

Autosuggestion is a way in which you constantly tell yourself the reasons as to why you want to quit smoking. In times of intense craving, these thoughts of autosuggestion may not come across your mind therefore, it is very important that you note them down and carry them everywhere you go. If possible stick these thoughts on a chart in rooms you frequently visit.

Some thoughts you can constantly say yourself are

1) Smoking will cause my child to be mentally retarded and me as a mother will be directly responsible for it. Therefore, it is important that I stay off smoking.

2) Smoking will weaken my body and me, as a mother will not be able to take care of my child. I will not be able to spend time and energy with my baby; therefore it is important that I quit smoking.

3) I want my baby to be born hale and healthy and I can do this if I quit smoking, therefore I quit smoking.

4) I want to be a good example for my child. I wouldn’t want my child to suffer from this addiction of smoking and for this to happen, I need to quit smoking.

5) If I am not able to control my selfish tendencies to smoke, my child will suffer the dangerous consequences. Therefore, I choose to quit smoking.

6) Most importantly print this in bold capital letters- I can quit smoking, I am a responsible mother and will take charge of my life, nothing can deter me from this aim of mine.

Communicate these thoughts to your dear ones so that they can support you when the going gets very tough. A gentle push from family and loved ones and your own determination will help you overcome this addiction successfully.
