Ketones Pregnancy
Ketones are manufactured when the stores of fat in your body are utilized for energy generation. Normally, whatever we eat is converted into glucose or blood sugar which is utilized by our body cells at a later stage. The insulin present in our body helps the cells to access this body blood sugar.
During pregnancy the scenario changes completely. Due to the presence of excess of hormones in the body the insulin of the body becomes resistant towards it own cells. As the result, the cells are not able to access the blood glucose of the body. so, in spite of having high blood sugar levels your cells might starve for the same. In such a case cells starts looking for other sources of sugar which are the fat stores and ketones comes into the scene.
Ketones are known to be harmful during the pregnancy period. Although it has not yet been totally proved. But still there is an understanding that the babies who are exposed to a lot of ketone are liable of having low levels of IQ and problems in their learning.
Urine Ketone In Pregnancy:
During pregnancy period the mother needs to have extra nutrition.it is because she have to take a diet of two. The fetus growing inside her body will take nutrition from her body only. So, nutritional supplements in large quantity are must for her.
In case a pregnant women is not taking proper diet, or missing diet, keeping long gaps within the two meals, having nausea problems due to which she is not able to have proper food etc could result in ketone formations. This is because in such cases the body will have to look for alternatives sources of fat stores.
During pregnancy, already due to hormonal imbalances the insulin gets restraint and if any other incident takes place which provokes ketone formation will increase the danger for the fetus. That is why urine tests are done which keeps a check on ketone levels.
