Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

Consuming alcohol during pregnancy can be very dangerous for your baby’s health. Your baby will have to pay a price both mentally and physically for your alcohol consumption. Doctors warn expectant mothers to not let a drop of alcohol pass through their mouths because the after effects of alcohol consumption are irreversible.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is one of the many dangerous after effects of alcohol consumption. The central nervous system of the fetus is the most affected and damaged.


What Can Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Lead To?

· Fetal Alcohol Syndrome can lead to behavioral and physical developmental problems.

· Children born with this syndrome tend to be born with small heads.

· Facial Features are more or less like the Mongolian features wherein individuals have smaller noses, flattened cheekbones, deep set eyes etc.

· They tend to suffer from epilepsy.

· Are more prone to suffer from Mental Retardation.

· Have a problem in coordinating fine motor skills.

· Cannot comprehend concepts, cannot learn new concepts easily.

· Poor socialization and problem solving skills.

· Lacks concentration, stubborn and is socially withdrawn.

· There is developmental delay and in some cases children tend to suffer from organ dysfunction.

You can prevent your child from suffering from the above painful conditions by abstaining yourself from alcohol and taking in healthy and nutritious food.

Damage caused by alcohol is irreversible. Therefore, it is very important that expectant mothers be very careful about what they eat. If you are unable to overcome your addiction, you are advised to seek help.
