Chlamydia infection is one of the Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD). It is caused by a bacterium called Chlamydia trachomatis. It affects the human genitalia and eye. It is the most common type of STD. According to an estimation, about 1 million people are infected with Chlamydia in the US. Chlamydia infection is transmitted during vaginal, anal, or oral sex.

Signs of Chlamydia Infection In Men & Women:

Chronic pelvic pain

Difficulty to concieve

Ectopic pregnancy

Unusual vaginal bleeding

Abnormal vaginal discharge

Pain in abdomen

Painful sexual intercourse

Frequent fever

Nausea

Painful urination

Increase in urge to urinate

In case of anal intercourse, inflammation of rectum is common.

Throat infection and sore throat are common in Oral sex.

How Does Chlamydia Cause Infertility ?
It is called “Silent Epidemic” in women. It does not cause any symptoms in 75% of cases. It can live for months and even years inside the body. Then it passes through the cervix to infect the fallopian tubes. This leads to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). Scar tissues are formed around the fallopian tube. This leads to blockage of the fallopian tube. The fallopian tube hence cannot pick up egg during ovulation. This leads to infertility in Women. Chlamydia is estimated to have caused infertility in 25% of all cases of chlamydia infection.

If left untreated, the infection may spread to the testicles causing epididymitis in men. This can lead to sterility in males if not treated within 6 to 8 weeks.

Treatment For Infertility Due To Chlamydia:
Early detection can cure the infection. Sexual intercourse should be restricted till the completion of the treatment.

Antibiotics that can cure Chlamydia Infection are:

Chlamydia is a disease which is sexually transmitted disease. This infection is caused by the bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia is a very conman disease which can be easily transmitted through the oral, vaginal or oral sex. It can also be transmitted by the mother to her baby during pregnancy period.

If this disease will remain untreated in women for a longer time, it can spread up to the fallopian tubes and can block their very ends. They can also also form a scar around the fallopian tubes and many similar condition can arise which can result in infertility.

Chlamydia and Infertility:

If the infection of chlamydia is left untreated for a longer time it, then it becomes dormant for several months. Slowly it travels through the cervix and reaches the fallopian tubes to cause a condition called Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). The symptoms of this condition includes fever, pain during sex and abdominal pain.

If this condition of PID is also left untreated then it can result in blockage of the fallopian tubes which results in infertility. In other cases, the infection moves up in the reproductive tract and results in the swelling of the uterus, fallopian tubes and the surrounding area. This part can be filled with pus and cause inflammation.

Some times a scar develops around the fallopian tubes which creates the difficulty for the tube to pick up the egg at the time of ovulation. All the above conditions increases the risks of infertility and also for ectopic pregnancy too.

Ovulation is the process in which a mature egg is released and is pushed down through the fallopian tube so that it becomes available for fertilization. In such a condition, the lining of the uterine wall thickens to hold the fertilized egg. In case, the conception does not takes place the uterine lining along with the blood sheds down as menstrual period.

Normally, one single egg is ovulated each month but in case more than one egg ovulates then the condition is termed as ‘Multiple Ovulation’. If both the eggs are released within a time period of 24 hrs. then there can be a possibility of fraternal twins. This condition arises only in 5- 10 % of the cycles and the chances of twins are also rare as most of the cases end in miscarriage which is referred as “Vanishing Twin Phenomenon”.

Multiple Embryonic Ovulation:

Although, multiple ovulation is not very common but it induced through medical treatment. These medications induced the probability of the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. This process is commonly followed in a process of ‘ Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer’ Where the fertilized eggs is transferred in the fallopian tubes.

Process Of “Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer”:

In this process first the ovaries of the women are stimulated to produce multiple eggs through medication. Then, these eggs are collected through a procedure called ‘Aspiration Procedure’. Now the eggs are fertilized in the laboratory by artificial means.

Once the eggs are fertilized they are placed deep into the fallopian tube through ‘Laparascopic Procedure’. After few days the symptoms of pregnancy can be noticed.

Thyroid is the gland which regulates the growth and metabolism of the body. Underactive thyroid activity will result in weight gain, brittle nails, dry skin, hair loss etc. This condition is also known as Hypothyroidism. This condition of Hypothyroidism is considered as the frequent cause for infertility or miscarriages.

Actually when the levels of thyroid goes down in the body the glands of pituitary and hypothalamus stimulates Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)in the body. TSH in turn stimulates the Thyroid Regulating Hormone (TRH) which releases thyroid hormone. TRH also stimulates pituitary which releases prolactin. Prolactin can interfere with the ovulation and also suppress some hormones which stimulates ovary.

Treat Thyroid For Infertility:
There are various problems which establishes a connection in between the thyroid and infertility. Some of these problems are:

The condition of Hypothyroidism can result in irregular menstrual cycles which can become a reason for infertility.

Infertility can be due any of the two conditions of Hypothyroidism or Hyperthyroidism; as both of these conditions could hamper the process of ovulation. If this is done, then in spite of regular periods no fertilization would be done.

This condition can form cysts in the uterus.

It also raises the levels of prolactin in the body. The hormone of prolactin is responsible for secreting milk in pregnant mothers. High levels of this hormone can effect ovulation.

Association Of Thyroid With Infertility And Miscarriage:

In order to have a safe and successful pregnancy it is necessary that the levels of thyroid glands must remain stable. The proper levels of thyroid concentration ensures proper ovulation and then successful fertilization. But it not enough. To have a safe and healthy child it is very essential that the levels of thyroid are maintained up to the delivery time.

Endometrial is the tissue which surrounds the inner surface of the uterus. It is responsible for the menstrual cycle in women. Thus, also acts as the major cause for infertility in women. Endometriosis is the condition in which the tissue of endometriosis moves out of the uterus and attaches to the other organs in the abdominal cavity like fallopian tube and the ovaries.

Endometriosis is considered as the major reason for infertility in women. It is a progressive disease. In this disorder some bits of tissues moves out of the uterus in the abdominal cavity. These bits of tissues of endometrial can cause pain and irregular bleeding and could also affect the ability of the women to become pregnant.

Causes Of Endometriosis:
The causes of endometriosis can be summarized in the following points:

Retrograde Menstruation: It is the condition in which the blood instead of flowing out through the cervix and vagina it flows backwards along the fallopian tubes into the abdominal cavity. It also carries living endometrial cells also along with it.

Immune System Defects: Endometriosis can be resulted as one of the defects of the immune system. It can be a specific defect which could eradicate stray cells migrating outside the uterus.

Hereditary: This disease has been termed as hereditary disease.so, the genes of this disease are supposed to be in the women if it was there in her family.

Embryonic Tissue Theory: There is a theory that endometriosis can be caused by the microscopic remnants of women’s embryonic tissue which later results as endometriosis.

Estrogen Theory: Endometriosis is related to activity of the hormone called ‘Organochlorines’. These are man made chemicals which are contained in the pesticides. These organochlorines are capable of increasing the estrogen related conditions like ‘Endometriosis’. They are also held responsible for various cancers also.
