Sample Diet for Gestational Diabetes

During pregnancy, it’s very important to maintain a healthy blood glucose level. However, it is common for pregnant women to suffer from gestational diabetes. Here are some sample diets for gestational diabetes. The goal of a diet is to provide the pregnant woman with the required nutrients and weight gain needed for each trimester.

Apart from energy, a woman suffering from gestational diabetes should also control her blood sugar levels to prevent further complications. Additional Recommendations

Here are some additional recommendations to be followed in case of gestational diabetes:

  • Have a diet with plenty of fluids and eat plenty of vegetables and fruit juices.
  • Enjoy small and frequent meals with snacks in between.
  • You may even have a sudden drop in blood sugar levels so snack before bed.
  • Try to reduce the amount of carbohydrates you eat.
  • Simple sugars like jam, candy, sugar, honey, non-diet soft drinks, maple syrup and everything like the above items should be completely eliminated from your diet.
  • Exercise is another vital factor that helps in controlling the blood sugar levels.

Discuss your planned diet with your doctor before beginning any diet regimes or any specific plan. Talk to a dietitian for the specific changes needed in your diet and undergo tests to check your blood glucose levels frequently. This will not only help in stabilization of the blood sugar levels but will also give you a healthy pregnancy that is free from problems.
