16th Week of Pregnancy

You will find that there is a growth spurt in the next few days as the baby doubles in weight and length. The 16th week of pregnancy is a very important phase as you can see many changes like the fetus will be the size of an avocado. The head is erect, the legs are developed, and the toenails are also growing. The fetus is 4 1/2 inches long from the head to the rump and weighs 31/2 ounces. In the same way your body also experiences many changes.

Significant Changes in the Fetus in 16th Week

The changes that occur in the fetus at 16th week are:

  • The baby has a growth spurt beginning from the 16th week.
  • The baby is strong enough to hold his head straight.
  • Eyes and nose are moving to their final position.
  • Much of the energy is being spent on the circulatory system as the heart is pumping 25 quarts of blood everyday.
  • The baby also has fine hair on the head, though some are bald.
  • The legs keep growing in the following weeks of pregnancy.

Changes in your Body in 16th Week of Pregnancy

The changes that occur in your body are:

  • You could boast a small belly and you will find that your waist is no longer trim.
  • At this stage, you have a clumsy and bulky feeling, and you look pregnant.
  • You may need some maternity clothes as they give you room to grow.
  • You may feel a flutter in the stomach for the first time.
  • The baby enjoys the wide space that he has to move around in the uterus during the 16th week of pregnancy.
  • He swims around vigorously which leads to sensations in the lower abdomen.
