Pregnancy – The 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Weeks

The second month of pregnancy includes the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th weeks in which changes occur rapidly. These changes, including weight gain and a wide range of emotional feelings, are normal and are caused by hormonal fluctuation. This is a good time to start watching videos and reading books about pregnancy, labor, and birth.

Week by Week Changes that Occur in Mother

The week by week changes that occur in a mother during pregnancy in the 2nd month include:

  • Week-9:

During this week, your weight increases and your gums become softer and thicker. Mucus membranes tend to swell which may result in a stuffy nose and middle ear fluid. These changes occur mainly because of the higher levels of estrogen and progesterone hormones in the body.

  • Week-10:

In this week, you may feel warmer than you did previously as your blood volume has increased. You may suffer from mood swings and gain a noticeable amount of weight, but this depends on many factors such as eating habits and regular exercise.

  • Week-11:

Your uterus fills your pelvis now and you may feel it if you press your fingers into your belly above the pubic bone. Morning sickness is common during the first trimester, and most women feel at least a little nauseous sometime during the day. You may experience leg cramps which can be reduced by mild and gentle exercise.

  • Week-12:

During week 12, your uterus moves a bit upwards. Fatigue may reduce to some extent and you may feel energized. Some physical changes like irregular brown patches, called the mask of pregnancy, are seen over the face and neck. A dark line of pigmentation can be seen from the top of the belly to the bottom of the belly. The placenta also reaches its final shape and size, providing the baby with all the nutrients it needs to keep growing.
