Chances of Miscarriage

It is very normal to have fear of losing the child growing inside you. There are many reasons why a miscarriage may occur. Every time you go to the bathroom, the fear of bleeding and spotting can make you feel worried. Women who have experienced miscarriage previously would experience this situation.

Spotting and bleeding is common in early pregnancy as is not always an indication of a miscarriage. Light bleeding does not always result in miscarriage. Sometimes a women experience light bleeding around the time of implantation.

Chances of Miscarriage

  • Chances of miscarriage depend upon the age of the pregnant woman.
  • Women who are between 18 to 35 years have nearly 10% chances of miscarriage.
  • Women who are 35 to 45 have 15% chance of miscarriage.
  • The chances of miscarriage may rise up to 50% when a woman is above 45 years old.
  • There are other factors which may give rise to miscarriage.

Causes of Miscarriage.

  • The most common cause during the first trimester of pregnancy is due to chromosomal abnormalities. This means that there are some chromosomes inside the baby which has made the growth of the baby impossible.
  • Women, who have diabetes are at greater risk of having a  miscarriage.
  • The chances of miscarriage increases due to some other conditions such as high blood pressure, measles and chlamydia.
  • The chances of miscarriage also increase if there is some problem in the uterus.
  • The chance of miscarriage also increases when the cervix opens too early during pregnancy releasing the fetus from the uterus.

How to Reduce Chances of Miscarriage.

  • Keep yourself healthy. A healthy and balanced diet is important to stay in optimum condition for pregnancy to continue.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Avoid drugs, alcohol and smoking.
  • Avoid high intake of caffeine.

Many miscarriages can’t be avoided. Do not blame yourself if you experience one. Make sure to see your obstetrician right away if you believe you are miscarrying.
