Prenatal Vitamins During Pregnancy – Things to Keep in Mind

  • Having good health is very important when you are planning to get pregnant.
  • You must visit your doctor regularly once you become pregnant.
  • You doctor will give you some routine tests to determine whether you have anemia, heart problems or diseases like chicken pox and rubella.
  • Before you know you are pregnant, neural tube defects can develop within 28 days of conception. Prenatal vitamins can decrease the likelihood of this happening.
  • The early development of the brain and spinal cord are dependent on folic acid, one of the components of a good prenatal vitamin.
  • You must consume ample amounts of folic acid even if you are not pregnant but are planning to get pregnant.
  • Calcium is also necessary for the mother and the fetus.
  • Additional calcium helps in maintaining bone density. Calcium is leached from the mother and used by the fetus for bone growth so must be replaced.
  • Iron helps increase the hemoglobin in the blood as it carries oxygen for the baby and the mother.
  • Prenatal vitamin supplements have more vitamins than normal vitamin supplements.
  • 50% of all birth defects are eliminated with the intake of prenatal vitamins.
