Is Diarrhea a Sign of Pregnancy?

Diarrhea is defined as that condition in which unusually frequent bowel movements are loose or watery. It can have many causes, one of which is pregnancy. It occurs as the result of changes in hormone levels, excessive eating, and intake of large quantities of fluids. It is because of these that diarrhea is considered a common symptom of pregnancy.

Diarrhea During Pregnancy:

Diarrhea is more common than constipation during pregnancy. No matter how mild it is, it is essential for you to follow all the advice of your doctor. It can be dangerous for your developing baby as it can result in premature labor. Diarrhea can also lead to dehydration, which again can prove fatal.

Methods To Prevent Diarrhea:

There are a few protective measures you can take to prevent diarrhea. These are:

  • Avoid foods that can create problems, like dry fruits, spicy food, milk products, etc.
  • Avoid simple drinks that have a high sugar content in them, like apple and grape juice, soft drinks, gelatin, regular colas, etc. These drinks have the tendency to collect excessive water in your stomach.
  • Avoid fried and fatty food.
  • Beneficial foods for you at this time are simple and non-spicy foods. This can include vegetables, soups which do not have a milk base, lean meat, yogurt, unsweetened cereals, potatoes, and toast.
