Signs of Pregnancy

There are a number of physical signs that may mean you are pregnant. You may experience only a few or even none of the signs, but they can show up immediately after conception. Here are some signs that you may be pregnant:

Implantation
A developing fetus will implant itself in the uterine lining about 8 to 10 days after ovulation. Implantation will usually cause an increase in progesterone levels, leading to higher body temperatures. If your temperature is high for fifteen or more days after ovulation, it may be an indication you are pregnant. But temperatures don’t always increase. Some women may see a slight temperature drop after implantation.

Positive Pregnancy Test
Home pregnancy tests measure the level of the pregnancy hormone hCG in your urine. Pregnancy tests work best about 18 days after ovulation. Tests measuring blood serum levels are even more sensitive. They can detect even low hCG levels. If you are experiencing pregnancy symptoms but home pregnancy tests show negative results, it’s best to further consult with your doctor to confirm a pregnancy.

Missed Period
This is the most common pregnancy sign. If you are a woman with a standard 28-day cycle, your period is considered late if it did not arrive 15 days after ovulation or 29 days after the first day of cycle. Increased body temperatures for 15 or more days typically accompany a missed period.

Frequent Urination
It is a very common early symptom of pregnancy.

Morning Sickness
Nausea and vomiting may begin as early as 2 to 4 weeks after conception. You may experience nausea and vomiting throughout the day. Morning sickness is typical during the first trimester, but may lessen or disappear completely during the second and third trimesters.

Breast Changes
Breast tenderness normally begins around 3 to 4 weeks after conception. It can also be a sign of an impending period. You may also notice a slight tingling sensation. Your areolas may become larger and darker.
